The Butler County Suicide Prevention Coalition

The Butler County Suicide Prevention Coalition (BCSPC) seeks to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and suicide within our community. Short term, we have set a goal to reduce Butler County suicides 10% by 2021. We would like to engage more of the community in suicide prevention and suicide-awareness events and trainings.

We focus especially on providing QPR Gatekeeper (Question, Persuade, Refer) training, increasing the number of people in our county to recognize warning signs of a mental health crisis, and enabling them to respond. Long term, our coalition plans to align with the vision of the state's suicide prevention plan to reduce the number of suicides every year until not one life is lost.

The Butler County Suicide Prevention Coalition meets on the second Thursday of every month at 3PM. Currently, the meetings are being held virtually on Zoom. To attend one (or more) of our next meetings, view our event calendar or click the links below:

According to the “Ring the Alarm: the Crisis of Black Youth Suicide in America,” report,  self-reported suicide attempts rose by 73% between 1991-2017 for Black high school students who took the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey, while injuries by attempt rose by 122% for Black adolescent males. This information indicates that suicide was the second leading cause of death and in 2017.

Black children under 13 years old are two times more likely to die by suicide compared to their white peers.

We can no longer turn a blind eye to mental health challenges and suicide. Life is better with you here and we want to help you.
