Camp Mariposa Southwest Ohio is a year-round addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth affected by the substance use disorder of a family member. Youth ages 9-12 (Youth Camp) and 13-16 (Teen Camp) attend weekend camps up to six times a year. Campers participate in fun, traditional camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, and archery alongside education and support sessions teaching critical life skills and self-care.
Campers and adult mentors make a one-year commitment to the program. Additional social activities are offered for children and their families throughout the year, and all program activities are offered free of charge to families. Eluna is a public, 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to support children and families impacted by grief or addiction. Founded in 2000 in Seattle by former MLB pitcher Jamie Moyer and child advocate Karen Phelps Moyer, Eluna was originally called The Moyer Foundation and launched a series of programs supporting thousands of children and families annually. Eluna's mission is to support children, teens, and families impacted by grief or addiction. Founded in 2000, they offer community-building camps, interpersonal connections and a continuum of support for youth and families. Eluna's three signature programs are provided at no cost: Camp Mariposa, an addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth ages 9-17; Camp Erin, the largest grief camp network for school-aged youth and their families; and the Eluna Resource Center, which provides research-based educational and personalized support. Camp Mariposa is a year-round addiction prevention and mentoring program for youth affected by the substance use disorder of a family member. Youth attend overnight camps six times a year. Camps offer fun, traditional camp activities combined with education and support sessions led by mental health professionals and trained adult mentors. Additional social activities are offered for youth and their families throughout the year. All program activities are offered free of charge to families. Claudia Black, an internationally recognized pioneer on the impact of substance use disorders on children, is the clinical architect of Camp Mariposa's program model.
