What is classroom education for kids & teens?

Classroom education is universal prevention delivered by a trained facilitator in a classroom setting with the teacher present. It is evidence-informed and proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, problem gambling, and violence by targeting major social and psychological factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors. Three major components of this training including drug resistance skills, person self-management skills, and general social skills.

Who is classroom education for?

Classroom education is good for everyone to get! Lessons are designed for youth and teens spanning elementary, middle/junior high school, and high school. 

What are the goals of classroom education?

Rather than merely teaching information about the dangers of drug abuse, classroom education teaches skills that are health-promoting and includes:

  •  Teaching students the necessary skills to resist social (peer) pressures
  •  Helping students to develop greater self-esteem and self-confidence
  •  Enabling students to effectively cope with anxiety and other negative emotions
  •  Increasing their knowledge of the immediate consequences of substance use and other risk behaviors
