In recent years, screens have taken over our summertime. Unlimited access to technology can be harmful for anyone, but especially for young children and adolescents. During the summer, caretakers can utilize free time to have fun, enrich learning, and review internet safety guidelines.
Let us help you out with some ideas to beat the boredom this summer without excessive screentime. These activities can be a great bonding experience for kids and family and also help to build other skills like problem solving and communication.
#1 Host Jeopardy
This game can be a great way to refresh some of your child’s school year learning, and give them a chance to show off their brains. This can be played indoors for some of the rainy days or extremely hot afternoons.
#2 Run an Obstacle Course
An obstacle course can be awesome for incorporating physical activity into play in a fun way. Use a timer to make the course a bit more competitive. You can use anything from cones, to rocks, to pillows to make the obstacle course as fun and challenging as possible.
#3 Make DIY Slime
Slime is a classic, fun, sensory play tool that is great for all ages. Many different variations of slime recipes exist online and kids may want to get creative with glitter and food coloring as well. Basic “Ooblek” slime recipes only require cornstarch and water!
#4 Have a Picnic
A picnic is a great way to involve your child in packing up a meal, taking a walk, and enjoying the outdoors. You may pick some flowers, enjoy some snacks, and see some bugs in the process!
#5 Play in the Sprinkler
A sprinkler is a perfect activity for beating the heat on hot days. This activity involves very little supplies and clean up and can keep a kid entertained for a long time!
#6 Write a Book
If your child is the creative type, give them the opportunity to write and illustrate their own bedtime story to share with you.
