Happy World Kindness Day!
World Kindness Day is celebrated every year on the 13th of November. Across the globe, people attempt to make the world a better place through good deeds and kindness. World Kindness Day started in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, which is made up of 28 nations today. (Awareness Days)
The theme for World Kindness Day 2019 is empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. Stephen Oke, secretary-general of the World Kindness Movement said "...nothing is as rewarding as giving back to others. The theme is on EMPATHY, feeling the pains of others and touching lives positively. Dare to make kindness your modus operandi and change the world." (World Kindness Movement)
How can someone join the World Kindness Movement? Acts of Kindness don't always have to be grand gestures. Something as simple as paying for someone else's coffee or wishing someone a great day are both great ways of showing kindness today. Here are some other small but meaningful gestures anyone can do this World Kindness Day:
1. Give a Compliment:
"You look really great today" "That outfit looks great! Where did you get it?" "You look so refreshed"
2. Lift Someone Up:
When a friend or coworker seems down, pick them up. Make someone feel like they're believed in, give them a boost of confidence.
3. Make Someone Laugh:
Laughter is truly the best medicine; take a minute to get someone else to laugh.
4. Pick Up Trash:
Go outside for a walk and bring a garbage bag along. Pick up trash as you go, leave your neighborhood sparkling!
5. Leave a Generous Tip:
Tack on a few extra dollars to that tip for someone who made sure your meal was timely or your coffee was just right.
6. Tell Someone Thank You:
Show gratitude with a "thank you", and really mean it.
7. Save the Fuel:
If possible, walk or bike to a store to get that one item you need. Oh, and bundle up!
8. Pay it Forward:
Pay for someone else's coffee or lunch, it'll make their day!
Happy World Kindness Day. Be kind to yourself and to others, and try to carry on today's kindness in every day.
